HUNGER

Thumbs Up! More MAZON Partners Stop Hunger

MAZON—A Jewish Response to Hunger—has forged strong partnerships with more than 850 "MAZON partner synagogues" nationwide. And the number is growing as congregations of all denominations educate their membership about the importance of tzedakah and the need for effective hunger relief. Becoming a MAZON partner is easy. Read how, and add your congregation to the expanding list of Jewish institutions helping in the fight against hunger.

Unite to End Hunger: Attend the Interfaith Convocation on Hunger

Thousands of people of all faiths and backgrounds will come together at the Washington National Cathedral on June 11, 2007, at 6:30 p.m., with a common goal: to end worldwide hunger and poverty. A Jewish Community Unites Against Hunger Pre-convocation gathering will take place at Temple Michah, 2829 Wisconsin Ave., N.W, Washington D.C., at 5 p.m. Make your voices heard. If not now, when?

National Hunger Awareness Day – June 5, 2007

National Hunger Awareness Day was created to raise consciousness about the problem of hunger in America. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, is Hunger Awareness Day. Now in its SIXTH year, this day serves as a platform for domestic hunger-relief organizations to raise awareness about hunger in America and the work that Second Harvest does. The 2007 theme is “The Face of Hunger Will Surprise You.”

We Cannot Do This Alone: Participate in National Hunger Awareness Day

Dr. H. Eric Schokman, president of Mazon, writes about the importance to the American Jewish community of coming together to fight hunger on National Hunger Awareness Day, June 5th. As Dr. Schockman points out, a collective commitment to dealing with this crisis is our responsibility, as Jews.

National Hunger Awareness Day – June 6, 2006

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs provided suggestions for 2006 activities as part of its Confronting Poverty Initiative.

Why is This Night Different from All Others?

There’s no question that Passover heightens one’s sensitivities to food. The Jewish Council for Public Affairs’ (JCPA) Confronting Poverty Initiative correctly determines that this is an appropriate time to think about hunger insecurity in America.

Food Crisis in Niger

MAZON

MAZON is a citizens' movement, the outgrowth of tens of thousands of American Jews who have stepped forward to solve one of the world's most devastating – and most preventable – problems.

With their support, MAZON works around the United States, and around the globe, to bring critical relief to millions of hungry families.

Rescuing Food for Israel's Hungry

Table to Table is a food rescue organization dedicated to feeding the hungry of Israel. Table to Table harvests excess fresh food from caterers, cafeterias, manufacturers, grocers and farmers and delivers the food to soup kitchens, food pantries, senior citizen centers, homeless shelters and other places that serve those in need.

WorldManna.org

Founded in June, 2004, WorldManna.org is the first non-profit organization established to influence the food industry to donate 1% it their proceeds to fight world-wide hunger. The WorldManna.org model is unique in that no donations from individuals are solicited to support the programs and initiatives of the organization and its partners. Instead, the food industry is compelled by the leveraging the purchasing power of participating consumers to provide financial resources to help eradicate hunger. Sign the Pledge and send a link to ten friends to encourage them to sign.

RESULTS

Are you interested in helping to make a difference in the fight to end world poverty and hunger? RESULTS is a non-profit grassroots citizens advocacy organization with the goal of creating the political will to end hunger and worst aspects of poverty. Rather than providing direct relief to people in need, RESULTS lobbies and educates government officials about needed solutions and encourages individual citizens to become a part of the process. As Rabbi Tarfon in Pirke Avot tells us, we are not required to complete the task, but neither are we free to neglect it. Maybe it’s time to get involved! Check out RESULTS at www.RESULTS.org.
